Hi
I saw a listing on Craigs list for notaries needed. Has any one ever heard of a Traveling Notary Public in Van Nuys? There was no phone number so could not call to verify. They want you to send the typical stuff that most signing companys want but I am leary of sending my info to some one I do not know. Let me know your thoughts.
Porshia, You are right to be cautious. With a company, you can research them via BBB, via the NNA list, via The Signing Registry if you are a member -- not to mention notarybeware.com and other sites. With an individual, you could be looking at an ID theft situation. I never give out my SSN or home phone to someone who calls me. If I do work for them and then I call them (after researching them at least a bit), I will give their payroll dept my SSN so they can issue the check for the work I did (some refuse to cut a check without an SSN on file, even tho they only have to send you a 1099 if you did $600 or more in work for them in 1 year). It is best to be careful about whom you give your private info to.
